Nikki Walkerden: HOLE
16mm film installation. Opening Tuesday 14 April 6-8PM

In HOLE, MFA candidate Nikki Walkerden will use the Graduate School Gallery to ‘enact’ parts of her thesis, using it as a screenplay that can be rehearsed, performed, filmed and edited in the gallery space.

Nikki Walkerden is a performance and film artist, writer and director with an eye for the experimental. Working with 16mm and super8 film, as well as digital media, sculpture and installation, the Sydney-born creator is captivated by screen culture and the marvels of the human body. Her work is recognized as Revel-8 Best Super8 Cinematography 2013 and Revel-8 Director’s Choice 2014 at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, and most recently as Best Climbing Film 2014 at the First Vertical Film Festival.

Showing internationally and across Australia at film and video art exhibitions, screenings and festivals, Walkerden’s works have featured in the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Anthology Film Archives and Over View Travelling International Festival of Video Art through dLux Media Arts.

With a passion for the emerging practices of moving image, Walkerden recently curated the inaugural media art space program at WEST project space, and continues to develop curatorial projects of a similar nature.
