Basic usage
Editing a page
To edit a page, simply click the edit link that appears on each page. It shows in the form of a tab at the top of the page. A form will appear, containing the existing markup. When you have finished making modifications, click the Save button to commit your changes.
Creating a new page
There are several paths to creating a new page:
- Create a link to the page on another page, then click on the link which appears
- Browse to the intended location of the page, e.g. http://www.expcinema.com/wikien/New_Page and click on the create link.
When creating a new page on an artist or a film, it is advised to use one of these templates:
Filmmaker template
(short introduction, plus photo) ==Biography== ==Filmography== (films or vdeos, preferably in chronological descending order (most recent first)) ==References== (books or links to internet articles) ==External links== (artist's site)
Film/Video template
(Short introduction, plus captures)
Synopsis/Description
Film notes
Technical data
Distribution/sales
(links to distributors/availability of DVDs or other means of consumer distribution)
Copies for rent:
*Sixpackfilm
*Light Cone

Categorizing
MediaWiki allows you to categorize pages and files by appending one or more category tags to the content text. Adding these tags creates links at the bottom of the page that take you to the list of all pages in that category, which makes it easy to browse related articles. To add a page to a category, simply put the following in the page you are editing:

where NAME is the name of the category you want to add it to. Any number of category tags may be added to the page and the page will be listed in all of them. Category tags can be added wherever you like in the editing text, but in general, they are added at the very bottom for the convenience of other editors. Images and other uploaded files can be categorized by adding category tags to their description page.
You can add a “sort key” to the category tag that specifies where the page will appear within the Category. This is done by using the following markup:

This is useful, for example, for people's names. Categorizing Viking Eggeling as will make this filmmaker appear under the 'E' letter for that category.
However, the best way to this, and once for all categories present and future is to add a 'DEFAULTSORT' sentence:

You can see all the categories in the Special:Categories page.
Uploading images
If you want to include an image in the article, the easier way is to do it using the 'embedded image' button in the editing bar, change the name of the image for the one you're uploading (try to make this name meaningful, e.g. 'Brakhage_Mothlight.jpg'), and, after saving the article, click on the link you will see and upload the image from there. Please, be sure to always provide some info on the image you're uploading and don't upload copyrighted images.
Searching
For a search on general terms, use the Search page. If you know the exact term you are searching (f.e.'Stan Brakhage'), you can type it in the 'Go to page' box you'll see in the left and press the 'Go' button.
If the page you are searching doesn't exist, you can automatically create one just clicking on the create link.
