Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema will host a retrospective on the work of Ernie Gehr, in his presence. With thirty-one titles, “Os Filmes de Ernie Gehr” will be one of the most complete programs on his work to date. Ernie Gehr will be in Lisbon to present all the seven programs scheduled for Cinemateca’s retrospective that range a body of work from the end of the 60’s until the present day.

Divided in two parts: the first dedicated to Gehr’s early films in 16mm, with famous titles such as Serene Velocity, Eureka or Side/Walk/Shuttle, among others, and a second part with the artist’s work with digital video, where he explores a brand new range of processes that at the same time continue his early work.

Most of Gehr’s early film work will be shown in recently preserved prints made by MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art, and some of the digital work will have their world première at Cinemateca. This program follows some other retrospectives organized by Cinemateca in the last years devoted to the work of other experimental filmmakers such as Stan Brakhage or Michael Snow.
