    —The origin of this film is a 30-second low-quality video, shot spontaneously on a mobile phone. When the video’s subject died suddenly a few weeks after the footage was taken, it became precious as the last moving image containing their likeness. (Matt Whitman)

    Exploring impressionistic, emotional and sensory environments found within the vast natural and urban landscapes of America. Neither image nor sound takes precedence: the two interact and combine preserving a raw sense of the discovery that field recordings and in-camera edited film rushes often yield.   • L’Âge d’or 2014

    El festival belga de cine experimental L’Âge d’or 'regresa' a Bruselas los próximos días 8 a 14 de octubre. 'Reviviendo el espíritu' del festival EXPRMNTL, este presentaría un total de veintitré filmes en competición, así como programas dedicados a, y con la presencia de  Birgit Hein (presidenta del jurado), Gustav Deutsch (quién además realizará una masterclass), Friedl vom Gröller, Matthias Müller y Christoph Girardet, Robert Todd y John Smith. Mark Webber, editor de la recientemente publicada antología de escritos de Gregory Markopoulos presentará dos programas de sus obras con nuevas copias. El festival también rendirá homenaje a Stephen Dwoskin y Adolfas Mekas, y presentará secciones dedicadas a la Vanguardia Italiana y una doble selección de “poemas etnográficos”, con obras de Raymonde Carasco y Robert Gardner.

  • 16th Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinemas

    The 16th edition of the Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinemas will take place in Paris and nearby from the 11th until the 26th of October.  On top of the presentation the International Competition programs made out of a selection of 58 films from 25 countries, this edition will focus on the relations between music and experimental cinema.

    We will have the great pleasure to welcome many filmmakers (Martha Colburn, Patrick Bokanowski, Patrice Kirchhofer, Robert Cahen, Xavier Christiaens,...) and musicians (Scorpion Violente, Magic Malik, Joana Preiss, Alexandre Yterce, Lionel Marchetti, HeadWar,...) who will intervene during 13 screenings, cine-concert, performances, installations and public discussions.

  • The Criterion Collection: Nicole Lizée's Iconic Remixes at the FNC Lab

    The Festival du nouveau cinéma is pleased to annouce its Lab performance entitled The Criterion Collection. A series of glitch-based pieces delve into the worlds of iconic films and filmmakers that have made a marked impact on the aesthetic of Canadian composer Nicole Lizée.

    This performance combines extracts from her previous work, Hitchcock Études (2010), Behind the Sound of Music (2014), Kubrick Études (2013). Each work is constructed around damaged and deconstructed audio and video - chewed and warped videocassettes. The resulting errors and imperfections are woven together to create a sonic landscape over which accompanying instrumental material - itself emulating the traits of broken or malfunctioning media - is performed live.
