Mirage Film Festival, with its unwavering dedication to showcasing innovative documentaries, has rapidly become a hub for documentary enthusiasts seeking thought-provoking, real-world storytelling. This year, the festival includes a few works that have shone in the past year for their hybrid and experimental approaches to documentary filmmaking, for instance Encina's IFFR winner EAMI.
Furthermore, this edition's lineup features a truly experimental work - In Visible Light - presented as a live-film performance (something fairly unusual even in the art-film field). This work promises something daring: a journey inside the generation and distribution of electricity. While few films have explored the theme of electricity before, what makes this even more peculiar is the statement of the director; he revealed that, beyond the intention to visually depict electricity, there's a perhaps materialistic interest in playing with the very medium of digital images – electrical current.
The artist, Gianmarco Donaggio, known for his experimental and avant-garde approach to filmmaking, is poised to defy the traditional boundaries of creative documentary in what promises to be a mesmerizing experience. If you happen to be in Oslo on the 13th of October, this live-film performance is not to be missed.
